Welcome back to school!

September 3rd is fast approaching and I am excited to welcome staff and students back for that first day of school!  This fall brings a change to the Alton Elementary School!  Increasing enrollment at Old Town Elementary School necessitated a transfer of their pre-kindergarten program to the Alton and Bradley elementary schools.  This year, Ms. (Brianne) Lees will have Brianne Moody as an assistant in the pre-kindergarten room in the morning welcoming 16 students to class.  Of that 16, 8 will be staying for the whole day as we pilot a full day pre-kindergarten program!  We are excited to welcome all of the new students and families this change has brought to our school!

We are happy to welcome Brianne Harper as the new combination 3rd and 4th grade teacher.  (If you are counting, that makes three Briannes for our small staff!!)  Ms. Harper worked in our school last year as a long term sub in the fall and again in the spring, showing her caring, thoughtful professionalism and work ethic.  She has been very busy creating a warm and welcoming space for her new students!

Vanessa Koch, the Leonard Middle School nurse, will be the school nurse at the Alton Elementary School also this year. Kaitlin Michaud has been hired as an additional speech therapist for the district and our students will be on her case load.  RSU34 also hired an additional occupational therapist, Kristi Swartz, who will serve our students as well.  I am very pleased to welcome all of these wonderful professionals to our school!

A significant change in RSU34 this fall will be an adjustment to the schools’ hours of operation.  We will have minimal impact from this change.  Our school will begin 10 minutes earlier and end 10 minutes later.  This will be an adjustment for the bus runs, so we ask for patience as we get things down pat. Students should be at school no later than 7:40. The official start time will be 7:50 AM.  Dismissal will begin at 2:20

Teachers are planning the open house for 3:00-5:00 on August 29th.  Please plan to come see the teachers, check out the classrooms and hopefully alleviate any first day anxieties!

New student registrations should be done at the Superintendent’s office at Leonard Middle School, 156 Oak Street, Old Town.  The office at the Alton Elementary School will be open from 7:30-3:00, August 26 – August 30.    We look forward to students returning to school on Tuesday, September 3rd.  The school day will begin with the first bell at 7:40 and dismissal will begin at 2:20. Enjoy the last weeks of summer!  See you soon!
