AES Parent Information for Day 1
Cheryl Leonard
Friday, September 04, 2020

Greetings!

I hope this message finds you making plans for a fun long weekend before school starts on Tuesday!  I would like  to provide some important information before arrival.  First, information has come through this week that all students will be able to have school breakfast and lunch at no cost until December 31st.  Students will be going right to their classrooms upon arriving at school, which should fall between 7:30 and 7:50 (8:00 for pre-k) and may start breakfast at that time.

At Alton Elementary School, we will be running the drop off of students slightly different this year.  There will be three Alton buses coming through.  Those buses will pull up past the flagpole to a designated spot.  A teacher will be posted at the flagpole area to supervise student arrivals.  There is now a designated spot for students being dropped off by parents also.  That spot will be just before the building and will be clearly marked  As each vehicle pulls up to the drop off spot, the child(ren) will get out, then the vehicle will pull around the circle and out to the road again. .  We must have students exit the vehicle on the school side, not into the traffic lane. Please remember that it is against the law to pass a school bus with flashing lights!  Students must stay in the vehicle until it is their turn to get out at the drop off spot, one vehicle at a time.

These first few days of school, we may have parents who would like to walk their children up to the door.  If that is your plan, we ask that you please park alongside the front field as you first enter the school driveway.  As you walk down to the school please keep a close eye on the cars and your child(ren).  Parking your cars before the congestion area will enable the school buses and vehicles that need to drop children off quickly to do so.

At the end of the day, we will be loading buses first, starting at 2:15.  As soon as they have left the yard, the teacher out in front of the building will begin calling children out to the circle as cars pull up, so we can keep the line moving smoothly.  This will take more time for the first few days of school until we recognize faces and vehicles, then it will proceed more quickly.  Again, if you need to park and exit your vehicle, we ask that you do that soon after you enter the school driveway, well before the pick up location.

This year, in the effort to reduce the social contacts our staff and students encounter, parents will not be entering the school unless by prior arrangement.  Please call the office with questions or information for us.  You are always welcome to come to the door to drop something off or check on something with us.

We are counting on parents to remember to run through the health screening questions every morning with your child.  Those questions are:

Within the past 24 hours, have you had a fever of 100.4 or higher?

Do you feel sick with any of the most common Covid 19 symptoms? (as listed on the pre-screening tool in your child’s paperwork)

Have you been in close contact with anyone who has Covid-19?

Have you travelled outside the state in the last 14 days?

If yes to any of these, stay home and give the school a call.

In addition, you are asked to stay home if you have 2 or more of the less common symptoms.

This is a different type of year that we are commencing, but we are happy that we will have students in school full time!  We will all do our best to make the best of this situation!

Enjoy your Labor Day Weekend!
