Pam Dunphy and Renee St. Peter participated in Project Learning Tree Training this summer. The program provides classroom teachers with 96 lessons on environmental education which can be infused in science, language arts, social studies, reading, math, art, music, special education, and civics lessons.
In order to implement some of these lessons, a learning space called the “Outdoor Classroom” has been established in the University Forest behind the school. Keith Kanoti, University Forest manager and OTES parent has helped to design this space. So far, over half of the classes have visited the learning space and had an observation lesson. It is our goal to build benches and a table in the area to make this a true hands-on learning setting for the OTES students.
