Class of 2019

ADAM ST. JOHN ‘81

Adam was part of special time in Old Town basketball history in the early 80’s when he helped lead the 1980 team to the Eastern Maine Class A Championship which included an 18-0 regular season. That team is one of just two in school history to finish undefeated.

His senior season Adam helped the Indians get the number 2 seed in the Eastern Maine Tournament and scored 27 points in their quarter final win before falling in the semifinals.

He capped his high school career with honors that included All-conference First Team, Class A All-Tourney Team, McDonald’s All-Star selection, All-State second team and selected as an American High School Athlete, a national honor bestowed exclusively to those American high school athletes who have compiled with exacting standards of achievement in athletics, scholastics, extracurricular activities and community activities.

Following graduation Adam attended Maine Maritime Academy who during his sophomore year started a basketball program that he would set a standard for. During his senior season he led the nation in scoring averaging 29 points per game. He was a 3-time Northeast Conference All-star and named the MVP in 1985. He was named to the All-Northeast Conference team and Maine College All-Start team 3 times, was the ECAC Player of the Week 7 times. He was named an All-American in 1995 and was the MVP of the NAIA All-Star game that season.

Adam is the CEO of Verso Paper Corporation and lives in Ohio with his wife Rindi and sons Thomas, Jesse, Max, Beau and Nathan.

Jaret Lizzotte '94

Part of the Old Town swimming dynasty, Jaret was part of four states championship winning teams from 1991-94. Not only was Jaret one of the best divers in school history but was accomplished as a swimmer as well. His junior year he won the State Championship in diving as well as the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay. That same season he scored a 236.85 for 6 dives which is still the school record.

Jaret was named captain in 1994 and capped his senior year by winning the State Championship in diving and the 200 medley relay. He would add another school record by scoring 424.15 in 11 dives, a record that still stands today.

He was a 3-time Diver of the Year and named to the 1993 All-Star Diving Team.

In addition to swimming Jaret played varsity football for 3 seasons and was named captain in 1993 when he was also named to the LTC 2nd team defense. In the spring he played varsity baseball his junior and senior season.

After graduation Jaret went to the University of Maine to swim for the Black Bears where he was named co-captain his junior and senior seasons. He would then spend 10 years as the UMaine diving coach.

Following his time at UMaine Jaret would spend 8 years as the diving coach at Bangor high school where he was named Class A Diving Coach of the Year 4 times.

Jaret currently lives in Old Town with his wife Susan and their two children.

Kendra Hayward '13

Kendra helped take the Old Town soft ball program to a place it had never been in school history when she led the Coyotes to the 2012 State Championship. In that 5-game playoff run Kendra struck out 50 while walking only 3 and allowing just 4 runs.

Voted team captain both her junior and senior seasons, she finished her career at Old Town with an overall record of 35-7 while racking up 339 strikeouts and allowing just 56 walks and 73 hits.

For a couple years Kendra cornered the market in post season awards which included the following:

2011 – Eastern Maine Class B All-Conference honorable mention pitcher

2012 – Eastern Maine Class B All-Conference first team pitcher

2013 – Eastern Maine Class B All-Conference first team pitcher

2013 – Penobscot Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year

In addition to softball Kendra also played varsity basketball for 3 seasons.

Currently Kendra is enrolled in the Doctor of Pharmacy program at Husson University. Since graduation she has continued to give back to aspiring softball players a volunteer in the Old Town ASA softball program, provided private lessons and worked as an instructor at Sluggers Training Facility.

Richard Burgess '84

Ricky Burgess was a three sport athlete at Old Town High School competing in football, basketball and baseball. He amassed 9 varsity letters before his high school career came to an end.

As a 3-year starting quarterback and kicker he led the LTC in passing yards and touchdowns as a sophomore. Following his junior season he was named First Team All-LTC Kicker and after his senior season was named All-State Kicker.

On the diamond he played 3 years of varsity baseball with batting averages of .382 (Soph), .450 (Jr.) and .512 (Sr.). Ricky was named First Team All-Conference in both his junior and senior seasons.

Ricky also played 3 years of varsity basketball helping the Indian advance to the Class A tournament his senior season and named to the Class A/B All-Star Team.

Following graduation he played a year of baseball at the University of Maine. He spent 1 year at Yumba College where he batted .400 and wrapped up his college career at Portland State where he was named to the Pac-10 Honorable Mention player his junior and senior season.

Ricky has also served his country with a 24 year career in the United States Air Force that saw numerous deployments including Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm and the Global War on Terrorism.

He has stayed involved in athletics from youth sports to high school as a baseball and basketball coach and an official for high school basketball and lacrosse.

Currently Ricky lives in California where he works as a 4th grade teacher for the Castro Valley School District.

Gene Fadrigon '63 (Coach)

While a student at Old Town High School Gene was a three sport athlete in football, basketball and baseball. But it would be the sport of hockey where he would leave his mark on Old Town Athletics.

In 1985 he became Head Coach of the hockey program and took it to levels never experienced before. The team was able to claim their first piece of hardware in 1987 by winning its first ever Eastern Maine Championship. Similar titles would follow in 1989, 1992 and 1993.

Fadrigon led Old Town to its first ever hockey State Championship in 1992 and completed back-to-back championships by taking the tile in 1993 and also received the Hockey Sportsmanship Award.

Becoming one of the most respected coaches in the state he would be named the State Class B Coach of the Year in 1987, 89, 92 and 93. In 1999 when Gene stepped down from the program the Class B Coach of the Year award was re-named the Gene Fadrigon Award.

Showing that he cared about the overall game and success of high school hockey in the state, he served as the coach’s representative to the Maine Principals Association from 1992-99.

In addition to serving as head coach, Gene also served 6 seasons as an assistant coach for the program, spent 7 years as coach in the Old Town youth hockey program while also serving as the programs President.

Zach Gasaway '98

When you think about the historic dominance of Old Town swimming Zach’s name has to come to the front as one of the best all-time. He finished his senior season in fine fashion as the team captain left Wallace Pool with his 4th straight team state championship to go along with his 4 individual gold medals. He won the 200IM with a school record 1:57:88 which still stands today and was the second fastest time in Maine high school history. He would take the state title in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00:69 which still stands as a school record. Zach would also take gold in the 200 medley relay. For his efforts he was named Swimmer of the Meet, becoming only the second Old Town swimmer to ever win that award. He was also named the Class B Swimmer of the Year.

During his junior season he was part of the state and school record setting 200 medley relay team that won the states title. He was also the state champion in the 200IM and the 200 free relay and the breaststroke.

Zach not only set school and state records but set a Bates College pool record as a junior and a Husson University pool record during his senior season.

In addition to the pool Zach took care of business on the baseball diamond for Head Coach Dave Paul where he batted .400 as a junior. Following his senior season he was named to the All – PVC first team as a third baseman.

Zach has remained in the pool since graduation serving as a Co-Head Coach and was an Assistant Coach on the school’s 2003 State Championship team. He currently lives in Old Town and is the Director and Coach of the Canoe City Swim Club.
