TITLE I AND OTHER ESEA SERVICES

RSU 34 provides services funded by the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act ("Every Student Succeeds Act" / "No Child Left Behind Act"). These include:

  • Title IA (which primarily focuses on student academic interventions),

  • Title IIA (which primarily focuses on educator professional development in English Language Arts, STEM, and differentiated instruction), and

  • Title IVA (which includes facets of our overall district work on Safe & Healthy Schools, a Well-Rounded Education, and Effective Use of Technology).

Family and citizen input into the use of these funds is sought and welcomed; for information on how to be involved please contact Dr. Jon Doty, Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment (207-827-3932).

The most visible of these efforts to families is Title IA.  RSU 34 chooses to focus the Title IA funds at the elementary grade span (Alton Elementary, Old Town Elementary, and Viola Rand Elementary Schools).  Title IA services include, for example, supplemental instruction in literacy, supplemental instruction in mathematics, Virtual Summer School, and Reading Recovery.

EVERY STUDENT SUCCEEDS ACT "DASHBOARD"

RSU 34 uses assessment data to help inform our practices at the district, school, classroom, and individual levels for our students. Although we encourage students and parents to participate fully in our assessment program, it is important to note that parents/guardians may opt their child out of state testing. If you are interested in doing so, please reach out to your child's principal to make this request in writing.

Each year the Maine Department of Education issues a report for each district and each school These reports summarize state assessments and other data for students in Grades 3-8 and 11. The report also contains information about teacher qualifications. State law requires those to be made available to the community. The ESSA Dashboard at the Maine Department of Education allows you to review report cards for schools and districts across the state.
