Welcome to RSU34! Below is the information to register at one of our Schools.

Enrollment Flow

Step 1: A parent or guardian begins the enrollment process by completing the online application. If you prefer a paper version, applications are available at the RSU 34 Superintendent's Office, located at 156 Oak Street, Old Town.

Step 2: Submit Required Documents
After applying, you'll need to provide the following documents:

  • Proof of residency (see below for examples)

  • Immunization records (see below for the requirements)

  • Original birth certificate

Proof of Residency and Immunization records can be uploaded during the application process, but the Original birth certificate must be presented in person at the Superintendent's office.

Step 3: Once your application and documents are received, the appropriate school will reach out to schedule an appointment, review next steps, and determine a start date. While you are waiting, take a moment to explore this site to see all that we have to offer.

REGISTERING FOR PRE-KINDERGARTEN AND KINDERGARTEN PROGRAMS FOR THE 2025-26 SCHOOL YEAR (NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS!)

Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) Program

RSU 34 offers a full-day Pre-K program hosted at Alton Elementary School. (207-394-2331)

  • Eligibility: Your student must be 4 years old on or before October 15, 2025, and you must live in RSU 34.

  • Important Note: If your child will be 5 years old on or before October 15, 2025, they are not eligible for Pre-K and should instead register for Kindergarten.

  • Students will not be placed on the official enrollment list until all of their documents are received - Birth Certificate, Immunizations, & Proof of Residency.

Waitlist Information
If more applications are received than available slots, a waitlist will be created based on the completed application dates of students.

Kindergarten Program

Kindergarten is a full-day program held at Old Town Elementary School. (207-827-1544)

  • Eligibility: Your child must be 5 years old on or before October 15, 2025.

  • Complete the Enrollment process as described above. Students cannot start school until we have received all of their documents.

Supporting Documents Information

State of Maine Immunization Requirements (Maine Statute link)

Records must document for DTAP (4-5 doses); polio (3-4 doses); MMR (2 doses); Varicella - chicken pox (2 doses); Tdap (1 dose prior to 7th grade); Meningococcal - MCV (2 doses - 1st prior to 7th grade & 2nd dose before 12th Grade) required.

 Proof of Residency Examples

  • Title evidence, mortgage statement, or lease agreement, tax bill, certificate of residency obtained from the town/city office

  • Utility bill such as an electric bill, gas bill, or home phone bill (a cellphone bill is not a utility bill and will not be accepted)

  • Maine Driver’s License, Maine State Identification Card, voter’s registration card, loan payment book, home insurance policy, bank account paperwork, medical card, permanent resident card.


A physical copy of the birth certificate should be provided in person at the Superintendent’s Office.
