Library Ed Tech III

RSU 34 seeks a child-focused and talented Ed Tech III to work with our library program, which spans our three elementary schools (Pre-K through 5th grade). The Education Technician will work collaboratively with the Library & Information Specialist and other educators to deliver, support, and reinforce lessons, and create learning experiences to help students grow academically, behaviorally, and socially throughout the school year.  

Position Requirements:

Instructs and models library skills with a variety of students and grade levels

Preparation of classroom materials and class management functions

Promote reading through instruction, book talks, book selection and reading enthusiasm.

Must exhibit positive relationships with co-workers, students, and parents

Maintain confidentiality with student information

Manages the library space, library collection, and materials for circulation.

Exhibit positive language and behavior skills as a model for children and families

The role needs a level of independence, but will be supervised and supported by the RSU #34 Elementary Library & Information Specialist

Anticipate Position:  COMPUTING INTEGRATION AND KEYBOARDING TEACHER (2-yr position)

RSU #34 seeks a talented teacher to join our team, focused on leading implementation and acceleration of our progress in areas that are normally integrated into classroom instruction.  In order to enable our classroom teachers greater time to provide individual and small-group interventions/extensions, this teacher will lead keyboarding instruction with our students, and collaborate with the teachers and our STEM Integration Specialist to further implement our efforts in 3D design, 3D printing, 2D design/output, robotics, and electronics.  

This two-year, federally-funded position will run through the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years.  Please include in your application evidence of Maine 680 (Computer Technology) certification, or your current certificate and plan for completing that certificate.

River Runners Cohort Leader

The Old Town-Orono YMCA and RSU #34 seek a Cohort Leader for River Runners.  River Runners is a nonprofit mentoring program funded by a long-term grant from the Lerner Foundation that connects young people to caring adults. There is a focus on using the outdoors and community as a means for connecting with youth and building youth aspirations.

The Cohort Leader will be a highly self-motivated person, who will work with the Program Director to implement and develop an innovative and effective program that builds youth aspirations utilizing individual and cohort programming, community organizations, school and YMCA resources, and other partnerships. Qualified candidates will have the ability to meet students where they are and provide them with the necessary tools to allow them to pursue interests and achieve goals that without River Runners likely wouldn’t be possible. The Cohort Leader will be an employee of the Old Town-Orono YMCA but will work collaboratively with and be required to report program data to RSU #34 and the YMCA. They also will complete necessary documentation for the Lerner Foundation and other applicable reporting agencies.

Food Service Assistants

We're looking for a few wonderful people to join the great crews we already have in place, beginning in late August. Your work will be with PreK children - Grade 12 teens. Successful applicants must like kids, must be patient and caring, must enjoy and excel at teamwork and cooperative efforts.

Duties may include operation of the POS (Point of Sale Computer), completion of production records, prep-work, cooking, and other duties as requested by the kitchen manager or food service director. Math skills and the ability to complete forms are not a big part of the job, but they are an important part. You must be able to reach, lift (up to 40 lbs) and be on your feet for an extended period of time.

Prior experience and Serv-Safe Certification are both a plus but not required for consideration. Educational Approval/Certification (Fingerprinting) and a satisfactory Submission of Criminal History Records Check application will be required from employee within 30 days of hire. CHRC Applications are available at the Superintendent’s Office.

Kitchens are open from 7 AM to 2 PM and shifts are 3, 4, or 5 hours, so your work hours may match those of your children or grandchildren if they are in school. The work year includes the student school year plus any assigned days, including required training and possibly the Summer Meals Program. Benefits may include paid holidays, clothing allowance, one free meal/day, sick days and dental, life, and disability insurance. There's also the option of participating in a retirement plan. The person who accepts this position must have a good driving record, must be able to lift 50 lbs. properly, must have good customer service skills, must be dependable, and must willing to pay attention to details and schedules.
