DISTRICT

Director of School Facilities, Operations and Maintenance

 Reports to:     Superintendent

 Supervises:     Maintenance staff, all contracted maintenance service providers and, in cooperation with building administration, all custodial staff

 Job Goal:       To oversee the care and maintenance of all RSU34 buildings, grounds and equipment.

 Qualifications

Associates Degree in Construction Management/Technology, Planning Project Management, Change Management/Life Safety is preferred or equivalent work experience with a primary function of building maintenance and operations.

Practical field experience in building systems including structural, mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems and grounds maintenance.

 Experience and/or demonstrated knowledge of the basic principles used in cleaning and maintenance of facilities and personnel management.

 Demonstrated knowledge of building infrastructure, storage and materials handling, maintenance equipment, tools, custodial equipment and supplies.

 Familiarity/awareness of common building codes, life safety codes, workplace safety, Maine Department of Labor safety guidelines, energy management, capital improvement and maintenance planning, project management, budget planning and management.

 Possess or willing to obtain certification/authorization/license related to AHERA, Integrated Pest Management, Water Systems Operation

Technology proficiency with email, calendar, spreadsheet and word processing software.  Ability to manage electronic work order system.

Essential Functions

 Ability to read, reason and understand policies, procedures, and related information; and to follow verbal or demonstrated instructions.

 Physical ability to perform all necessary upper and lower body movements.

 Communicate clearly and effectively.

Ability to do simple calculations, divide, multiply, addition, counting, and subtraction.

 Ability to operate tools and equipment, and the ability to perform repairs.

 Valid Maine driver’s license.

 Ability to lift and carry at least 70 pounds, climb heights up to 12 feet on a ladder, and stand for ½ hour.

Performance Responsibilities

 Inspects all school buildings and grounds on a regular basis to determine high standards of cleanliness, safety, operation, and security are maintained.

Oversees the development and management of regular preventative maintenance programs.

 Plans, coordinates and conducts periodic inspections of all facilities required by local, state or federal law such as fire inspections, asbestos inspections, insurance safety inspections and annual visual inspections of all school facilities as required by Maine Dept. of Education regulations to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.

 Prepares the annual facilities/maintenance operating budget and monitors expenditures.

Establishes productive, cost effective vendor relationships and processes all maintenance related purchase orders for central office approval.

Approves and forwards maintenance and custodial related invoices to the business office for payment.

 Prepare and initiate and maintain records of continuous training of maintenance and custodial staff related but not limited to Maine Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Standards Compliance programs, Training Records, Equipment Inspections, Facility Inspections, Shop Specific guidelines, Chemical Hygiene Plan, Chemical Hazards and Personal Protective Equipment.

 Establish guidelines for the division of responsibility between maintenance and custodial staff for minor repairs and emergency repairs.

Maintains a coordinated inventory control program for all maintenance and custodial equipment and supplies.

Maintains the key control program.

Works directly with contractor(s) to insure all district roadways, parking lots, and sidewalks are snow-plowed/sanded appropriately. In cooperation with building administrators, coordinates custodial responsibility for snow and ice removal and appropriate sand/salt application of all non-contractor cleared walkways.

In conjunction with the HVAC maintenance contractor, oversees/coordinates district building HVAC infrastructure utilizing HVAC software to monitor and adjust performance.

 Oversees all maintenance of school district owned vehicles and equipment and regularly inspects vehicles for cleanliness and necessary repairs.

 Plans for and keeps records of all maintenance performed on all district owned vehicles.

 In conjunction with athletic directors, supports the preparation of playing field grounds and other necessary facilities for athletics and other school activities.

 Assigns and schedules district’s vehicles for various activities including extra/co-curricular events, transportation for employee special duty/professional development, and individual special education needs.

In cooperation with the Business Manager, has knowledge of auto and property insurance policies and required tasks/inspections.

 Terms of Employment

 260-day contract.  Salary to be established by the Board.

Elementary Physical Education Ed Tech

RSU#34 is seeking applicants for assisting in our Physical Education Program at the elementary level. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Assists a certificated teacher in reinforcing physical education instruction to individual or small groups of students in a physical education classroom or outdoor environment

  • Assists in the preparation of instructional materials and implementation of lesson plans

  • Leads, monitors and oversees student drills, warm-up stretches, practices and exercises.

  • Performs a variety of clerical duties in support of physical education activities such as preparing, duplicating and filing instructional materials.

  • Provides support to the teacher by setting up and breaking down equipment for physical education classes, and sports activities.

  • Assists students with physical education activities, rules and procedures; assists students by answering questions, providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance. 

  • Observes, supervises and controls behavior of students in the gym 

  • Assists in shaping student’s behavior through positive reinforcement and other strategies.

  • Assists in the planning and coordination of the District Physical Education special events and activities.

Qualifications:

·         Understands the importance of skill development through instruction and with activities within the PE classroom

·         Patience and tolerance for young children

·         Able to manage a variety of behaviors.

·         Enjoys interacting with a variety of students and staff members

RSU #34 District IT - Computer Technician (Entry Level)

The RSU34 District IT office has an opening for an Entry Level Computer Technician.Computer technicians will be responsible for troubleshooting a wide range of IT related issues that will vary depending on the district’s needs and the specific building they work in. They will be required to deal with changing needs and requirements in a dynamic, educational environment.Computer technicians should be able to provide accurate instructions to the end user, answer basic computer-related queries, and maintain the district’s IT resources.This work also requires record keeping and documentation. The ability to work as a team member, communicate clearly and effectively and develop positive working relationships with all employees is essential. Duties may include working not only with students and staff, but occasionally interfacing with parents to solve technical issues.Computer technicians work full time (40 hours), and schedules may occasionally need to be adjusted to accommodate evening or weekend duties.The position requires a “can do” and “whatever it takes” attitude in order to support Regional School Unit #34 instructional technology.

Middle School Mathematics Specialist—2 Year Position
