RSU #34 Elementary Schools Job Opening

Music Educational Technician III Position

RSU#34  is seeking a 32.5 hour a week music Educational Technician III. The K-5  music program serves approximately 700 students in kindergarten through 5th grade housed at Alton Elementary School, Old Town Elementary School, and Viola Rand School. This Educational Technician will work in cooperation with the K-5 music teacher to provide classroom music instruction while also assisting with other music programming and other school duties or activities.  The position will be supervised by the elementary school music teacher and the building principals.

 Position Requirements:

Knowledge and/or experience necessary to provide elementary classroom music

Ability to plan and carry out annual concert events under the supervision of the music teacher

Engage students in cohesive learning experiences to help them grow academically, behaviorally, and socially throughout the school year

Maintain supportive and effective classroom management

Maintain positive relationships with co-workers, students, and parents

Maintain confidentiality with student information 

Any other appropriate duties the supervisor deems necessary. 

Travel between schools is required.

 Certification:  The Ed Tech will be working with a Certified Music Teacher to support and implement the music program.  Current Maine teaching and/or Educational Technician III required.

Elementary Physical Education Ed Tech

RSU#34 is seeking applicants for assisting in our Physical Education Program at the elementary level. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Assists a certificated teacher in reinforcing physical education instruction to individual or small groups of students in a physical education classroom or outdoor environment

  • Assists in the preparation of instructional materials and implementation of lesson plans

  • Leads, monitors and oversees student drills, warm-up stretches, practices and exercises.

  • Performs a variety of clerical duties in support of physical education activities such as preparing, duplicating and filing instructional materials.

  • Provides support to the teacher by setting up and breaking down equipment for physical education classes, and sports activities.

  • Assists students with physical education activities, rules and procedures; assists students by answering questions, providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance. 

  • Observes, supervises and controls behavior of students in the gym 

  • Assists in shaping student’s behavior through positive reinforcement and other strategies.

  • Assists in the planning and coordination of the District Physical Education special events and activities.

Qualifications:

·         Understands the importance of skill development through instruction and with activities within the PE classroom

·         Patience and tolerance for young children

·         Able to manage a variety of behaviors.

·         Enjoys interacting with a variety of students and staff members

·         Understands the importance of a positive attitude towards children and others

·         Able to contribute to the PE program with ideas, plans, and physical activities.

·         Must have at least an ED Tech I certification, Ed Tech III preferred

·         Must have the ability to travel between elementary schools in Alton, Bradley, and Old Town
