Athletic Update

We will begin athletics for OTHS on Monday, Dec. 14th - this will be small (30 or under) pods based on the HS cohorts that are currently established (m/t or th/f). We will run this approach to athletics till the MPA date of Jan. 4th, when we will begin our season for Winter (tryouts and full practices). From Dec. 14th to Jan. 1st we will be operating with a skills/drills and conditioning mindset. We will follow all the mandated expectations from the MPA with Covid restrictions and recommendations. (spacing, masks, sanitation). Numbers for cohorts are based on sign up for winter sports.

 

OTHS Winter Sports Program Outline:

·       Programs will run 1-hour skills/drill and conditioning sessions

·       Programs will be housed at OTHS. (hockey and swim will access off-site 1 day a week)  

·       OTHS will operate M-F, no weekends

·       Dec. 21st will be the M/T cohorts, Dec. 22nd will be the Th/F cohorts – Programs will be off Dec. 23-27th 

·       allow all virtual students to participate, but they will be assigned Thur/Fri Cohorts

·       Program off days that are not in-person would include some virtual guidance for athletes.

·       Wednesdays will be virtual for all, except for the week of Dec. 28th and based on off sight facility availability.

·       Dec. 28th and 29th will be M/T Pod, Dec. 30 and 31st will be Th/F Pod  

 

I will break down each program for information reasons:

Cheer:

·       The Program will run 1-hour skills/drill and conditioning sessions

·       We will run two pods of kids – A Mon/Tue Pod and a Thur/Fri Pod

·       Virtual Students will be on Thur/Fri Pods

·       Mats and OTHS gym will be used

 

Men's Basketball:

  • The Program will run 1-hour skills/drill and conditioning sessions
  • We will run two pods of kids – A Mon/Tue Pod and a Thur/Fri Pod
  • Virtual Students will be on Thur/Fri Pods
  • OTHS gym will be used

 

Women's Basketball:

  • The Program will run 1-hour skills/drill and conditioning sessions
  • We will run two pods of kids – A Mon/Tue Pod and a Thur/Fri Pod
  • Virtual Students will be on Thur/Fri Pods
  • OTHS gym will be used

 

Men's Swim:

  • The Program will run 1-hour skills/drill and conditioning sessions
  • We will run two pods of kids – A Mon/Tue Pod and a Thur/Fri Pod
  • Virtual Students will be on Thur/Fri Pods
  • The pool 1 day a week (Monday and Friday, Tuesday and Thursday will be dry land) and cafe/gym use

 

Women's Swim:

  • The Program will run 1-hour skills/drill and conditioning sessions

OTO Hockey:

·       The Program will run 45 min. sessions on ice for both schools, 1-hour dryland session at OTHS for OTHS - skills/drill and conditioning sessions

·       M/T pod 11, Virtual 4, Th/F 5 - I would push all virtual to Th/F

·       ice 1 day a week (TBA on what days at the moment) and cafe/gym use other days

 

Indoor Track

·       This program will be on pause for in-person training until Jan. 4th due to facility and lack of clarity and direction on the season

·       Maintain virtual direction for skills/drills and conditioning 

 

Wrestling

·      This program will be paused to in-person training until further notice due to a lack of season and a Red classification per Community Sports Guides

·      We are also working on a home for the program with our current co-op situation that is not an option.

 

The last point, to sum all this up and the work that we have all done - IF Penobscot County is classified as YELLOW AT ANY POINT, WE ARE BACK TO VIRTUAL COMMUNICATIONS AND DIRECTIONS.
