Holiday Break Challenge: Are You Bored? Let Us Help You With That! This week, all students will be sent home with our Holiday Vacation Challenge. There is a flier with links to the read aloud and ideas for card games. Each student will come home with a deck of cards as well. Over this holiday break, beat the boredom blues by picking up a game and playing with the people around you! Title 1 Family Engagement funds has provided each student with a deck of cards. Mrs. Reesman has recorded “Barnacle is Bored” for you to listen to online and enjoy. There are so many fun things to do, there’s no reason anyone is bored over break! Send a photo of you playing a card game or other game to Mrs. Reesman (michelle.reesman@rsu34.org) for your chance to win a fun book. Please include your student's name and teacher in the email. The challenge is posted on the library website and Facebook https://sites.google.com/rsu34.k12.me.us/rsu34-library/home?authuser=0

Every year, our kindergarten team does a whole unit about gingerbread stories. Students learn about the traditional tale, different versions of the story, story elements, and have a lot of fun along the way! This year, the K team also dressed up as gingerbread people for our team challenge!

We're only $425 away from our fundraising goal! Thanks to everyone who has donated so far. The garden couldn't be what it is without all of you. https://donate.seedmoney.org/8115/old-town-elementary-school-learning-garden Our Learning Garden does amazing things for all our students! This program has started a movement, bringing us outdoor learning spaces, a greenhouse, legacy planting projects for each grade level, the Sparkle and Shine lights display, the Bug Run and Plant Sale and so much more! Please consider a donation, no matter the amount, to support this important part of OTES!

We want to share a huge thank you with the community members, staff, and students who made our past two events great! Our Online Auction raised over $5,000 for our OTES PTC. This event was chaired by our own kindergarten teacher and RSU #34 parent, April Smith. Our Holiday Bazaar was a busy and cheerful event that also brought in funds for the OTES PTC as well as many local vendors and groups. This event was co-chaired by our own art teacher and RSU #34 parent, Tiffany Palmer and OTES parent, Lisa Carter. These events could not happen without our entire volunteer crew and our supportive community. Thank you!

It was a beautiful, but chilly final fall walk to school today. Mr. Cyr and his daughter joined us and we cheered on the UMaine ROTC cadets during their 8 mile, heavy pack carrying journey. We love winter, but are already looking forward to Spring walks to school. Thanks to all who joined us this fall!
