News and Notes from Old Town High School

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year.  We’ve listed some updates below.  If you have any questions, please reach out to us as we are happy to help and answer any questions.  Our contact information is on the reverse side.

Communication:

Our administration team sends out weekly emails to parents and students to help keep everyone on the same page.  Please make sure that you have a current email with us when you check over the contact information at the start of the year.  If you don’t have an email, the weekly update is posted on our website and social media accounts.  Please remind your student to check their email a few times each week.  This is our primary communication with students.

Fall Return:

At the school board meeting on August 25, Mr. Walker will outline our Return to School Protocols.  Those will be posted on our website and social media accounts following the board meeting.  At OTHS we are returning to many of our pre-pandemic policies (eligibility, attendance, tardies, etc).  We will send those out during our September email updates and we will go over them in detail with students.   The first day of school for all students will be Tuesday, September 7, 2021.

Class of 2025 Orientation:

We will hold an Orientation Day for incoming grade 9 students on September 2nd from 8:30 to 12:00.  Breakfast and lunch will be provided.  Transportation will be provided to those who need it.  Please contact either Scott Gordon or Jeremy Bousquet to make arrangements - (contact information for both can be found below).  This will be an opportunity for students to come in and tour the building, find their classes, meet their teachers, and start the transition to High School.  We are looking forward to seeing them in our building!

Chromebooks:

We will be distributing School-Issued Chromebooks starting on Monday, August 30th.  Devices can be picked up Monday to Thursday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM.    Parents/Guardians will need to complete some paperwork before devices can be given out.  There is also a $20 usage fee ($40 per family grades 6 to 12).

PSATs:

*Students in grades 10 - 11 will have the opportunity to take the PSAT/NMSQT on Wednesday, October 13th.   This is a great opportunity for students as they get ready for the SAT.  There is no make-up day for the PSAT.  Students who are interested will have to sign up in advance.  More information will be emailed to students.

Schedule Changes:

Guidance staff will be available for schedule changes during the first week of school.  If your student has an idea of a change they need, have them complete our google form:  https://tinyurl.com/21schedcha...

Junior/Senior Release:

Juniors and seniors who have empty blocks in their schedules can apply for release.  Due to the rotating nature of our schedule and because the periods are shorter this year (55 minutes), parents/guardians will have the option to approve release for the periods at the beginning or end of the day or all the empty periods.  Forms will be available at the beginning of school paperwork.  Students who do not have permission to leave will be expected to stay for Study Halls.

Pick Up/Drop off:

In the morning, students who are dropped off by a parent or guardian should be dropped off on the bus loop at the back of the building beginning at 8:00.  In the afternoon students will be picked up on the bus loop at the back of the building from 2:50 to 3:00.  Please do not plan to pick up students in the front bus loop until after 3:00.

Morning Arrival:

Our doors will open at 8:00 AM for the fall.  Students who arrive prior to period 1 will report to the cafe until 8:15.  The warning bell is at 8:25 and period 1 starts at 8:30 AM.

School Supplies:

Teachers typically go over necessary supplies during the first week of classes.  For the first week, students should have a notebook and something to write with and their Chromebooks.
