The RSU #34 Resource Center is open to all district families in need of food or basic household supplies. The Center is located at OTES and is open on the first and third Thursday of each month from 2:30-4:00 pm. After learning about “The Carnival of the Animals” from the music education class at UMaine, all second graders had a chance to attend a concert at Minsky Recital Hall where they heard UMaine faculty and students perform the entire piece of music of The Carnival of the Animals. Mrs. Marquis heard one student crying at the the end of the performance because she said “it was just so beautiful”. Another student said “I have never heard anything like this in my entire life, it was amazing”. It was a great day!
OTES lunch for Wednesday, March 1st is a sunbutter and jelly sandwich, cheese stick, chickpeas, and fruit.
TODAY, Monday, February 27th is the last day to order author/illustrator visit books to ensure they arrive on time to be autographed by Jarrett Learner!
Author, illustrator, and graphic novelist Jarrett Lerner will be visiting OTES on March 16th. We are so excited because this is the first school-wide author visit in a few years and all students will have a chance to attend a session with Mr. Lerner. Ordering Jarrett Lerner’s books is easy! Visit https://briarpatchbooks.square.site/old-town-elementary-school to purchase your own copies. Please order before February 27th to ensure books arrive before Mr. Lerner’s visit for autographs. Ordering will be kept open until Monday, March 20th, but late ordering is not guaranteed to arrive before his visit. Kindergarten will be celebrating colors for the next two weeks. All students and staff are welcome to wear the color of the day if they would like.
We are looking forward to having lunch with friends again next week!
OTES kindergartens completed this collaborative found art project earlier in the school year. It is now on display at the Old Town Public Library in the Juvenile Fiction room.

We got an early start on February Vacation and that means more time to complete the February Vacation Challenge!
This week, February Vacation Challenge fliers were sent home. To complete the challenge, listen to the read aloud of The Pigeon Will Ride the Roller Coaster! read aloud by Mrs. Reesman, create your own roller coaster or marble run, and send a picture or video of your coaster or marble run to michelle.reesman@rsu34.org to be entered to win a copy of the book. RSU #34 schools will be closed today--2/17/23. This was not an easy decision. The forecast of ice starting between 10 and 11am prevents opportunity for a safe early release and creates a dangerous afternoon dismissal. Be safe, and enjoy your vacation next week.
